MAJ Political Action Committee
In 1986, the Association established its Political Action Committee (PAC) to support state candidates for office. Later, full-time lobbyist were hired; professional lobbyists who, today, track and monitor legislation bills of interest to the trial bar. With the increasing onslaught of legislation designed to limit the rights of consumers and to alter the practice of civil law, legislative involvement has become one of the Association's top priorities. The Maryland Association for Justice fights repeated attempts to erode the civil justice system and helps promulgate laws that enable Maryland citizens to hold wrongdoers accountable for their negligent actions. Among its successful lobbying efforts, the Association has worked for the passage of laws that allow for the progressive increase of the caps on non-economic damages and for the introduction of bills or medical records as evidence instead of medical experts in district court.
